INTRODUCTION TO FEBRUARY DEVOTIONS
From my book, His Roses & Thorns
THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE OF GOD’S LOVE
God is love! John 4:8,16
GOD’S language of love My husband, Milton and I traveled to Germany so we could participate in the first Communion of our grandson, Jay. The outpouring of love to us from Jay’s family and friends was extraordinary, especially when 99% of that love was felt, not spoken. I do not speak German, and they spoke little English. That wonderful experience made me think about other expressions of love that are felt rather than spoken.
Textbook on love What source could I use to describe the various meanings we associate with love? Would HIS word tell me of all forms of love, including love between family members? What about love expressed as kindness towards those we love as well as those we would consider enemies? Could I find love expressed as desire for things that give us pleasure and satisfaction?
Love poems And since the month of February includes the celebration of February 14th as Valentine’s Day, a day for lovers, could I also find in my Bible, love expressed as passion? If I had any doubt I only had to read the book of Solomon. One Bible commentator talked about an interpretation of this book as one that encourages true love and fidelity within the bonds of marriage.
Love stories The devotions for February are just stories of the many forms of GOD’S love I have experienced. As you read them, see if you can find GOD’S love for us expressed through the love of others. Join me in this month’s devotions and experience GOD’S love for us anew.
“And now abide faith, hope, love these three; but the greatest of these is love”
I Corinthians 13:13
